Tonya Pinkins is a Tony Award winning actress/singer who has starred in nine Broadway shows
including the original CAROLINE OR CHANGE. She has won or been nominated for nearly every award there is in the American theater. She is a Fulbright Specialist.
In addition to being an actress and author, Tonya is a playwright, director and educator.
Tonya wrote the essay WHY I AM FED UP WITH PERFORMATIVE ACTIVISM FROM BLACK AND WHITE THEATER MAKERS has been made required reading at universities including Yale School of Drama.
She starred in 245 episodes of the soap opera ALL MY CHILDREN. Also starred in 24 with Kiefer Sutherland, Gotham, Scandal, Fear the Walking Dead, and Madam Secretary.
She played Alma Carthan, Emmett Till’s grandmother in ABC/HULU’s WOMEN OF THE MOVEMENT.
