Marcellus Cox’s LIQUOR BANK is a true depiction of someone fighting the demons of alcohol addiction. This film shows what alcohol does to people’s mental health. Alcohol leads to depression, uncertainty, self-depreciation, insecurity, self-doubt, but becomes a trap that many can’t get out of even when help is standing in front of them.
Actors Antwone Barnes and Sean Alexander James bring the characters of Eddie and Baker to life. There is tension, but there are silent cries for help from the character Eddie played by Antwone Barnes. His eyes are the windows to his soul and you feel his struggle, but you feel his cry for help without saying a word.
Baker, portrayed by Sean Alexander James brings forth his character has someone who has already walked the road of alcohol addiction and into sobriety. An experience that only has one goal, and that is to help others. Sean balances understanding, patience, strength, gentleness and tough love when it comes to dealing with Eddie’s demons.
Both bring incredible performances that will help those dealing with alcohol addiction, because for many it will be like looking into a mirror. And see that help is close by.
The cinematography comes across as very film-like. The noise within the frame adds a realism to the film, which I liked very much.
LIQUOR BANK ends with these words, “We are not put on this earth for ourselves, but are placed here for each other. If you are there always for others, then in time of need, someone will be there for you.” Jeff Warner - Simply put, we reap what we sow.

4 LIFE CHANGING Lessons from You Can Go Home Whenever You Want Short Film
Wednesday May 07, 2025
Wednesday May 07, 2025
Ladies and gentlemen, a recluse has been living off the grid for a number of years, isolated from society but for the people who seek him out. He lives at the base of a hill, which may or may not be a conduit to the next life. Those who want to ascend the hill check in with the recluse, and then when they walk to the other side, they disappear, never to be seen again.
You Can Go Home Whenever You Want brings up the topics of transcendence, mortality and the role that human existence, even causes one to think about the meaning of life. Questions of should I stay or should I go. If the road becomes tough, do I check out or do I stick it out.
You Can Go Home Whenever You Want is a film I like, because it causes us to think about many things. When you watch the film, you are focused on the actors, their embodiment of the human experience, truly the depths of life itself.

When Charlotte's mother Edith forces her to marry the catty and sarcastic Cecil, Charlotte time travels from the Victorian era into the modern time to be with her beloved pen pal, Zachary. Unfortunately, Charlotte's plan goes awry when Cecil follows her through the time portal. The rest of the film you’ve got to see.
I’ve seen so many short films playing off of Pride & Prejudice or Downton Abbey, but FIREFLIES IN THE DUSK disrupts the prim and proper flare the right way with comedy, both hilarious and dark.
Each character holds their own identity, which I love as it makes you beg for more to see FIREFLIES IN THE DUSK become a streaming series in my opinion. Which would be a great thing since television today lacks originality.
Thank you Jonathan and Martin for sharing your film with me today. I can’t wait to see what it does in this very busy film festival season.
Jonathan Hammond is a three-time Emmy-nominated writer/director. He is the co-recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Joan B. Kroc Institute for Justice and Peace, and two KPBS Explorer Grants.
He has also won the Best Writing Award at the 2016 San Diego International Fringe Festival, and his work was selected for the prestigious New Playwrights Festival at The Old Globe Theater in San Diego. He has won dozens of awards for his filmmaking.
Martin Spanjers got his start as an actor in television, film and theater at the age of seven. His credits include over 120 episodes of television for MAX, Disney and all the major networks.
Notably, he played John Ritter’s son for 3 seasons on the hit sitcom 8 Simple Rules on ABC. Recently, he’s embraced the other side of the camera. As a producer, his work has been selected by and won awards at the biggest film festivals in the world, including Tribeca and TIFF.
Martin is currently developing multiple projects including a feature-length documentary and true crime dark comedy.

LADYBUG Short Film: What Happens When One Woman Takes on the NRA?
Monday Apr 28, 2025
Monday Apr 28, 2025
Ladies and gentlemen, in the 18 months it took to complete the film LADYBUG, approximately 3,376 children and teens were killed by firearms. Guns are the leading cause of death in children in the United States.
The powerful and compelling short film LADYBUG is about the anniversary of her daughter's murder, Ronnie is commemorating the day with vengeful act aimed at NRA headquarters. From her suburban Indiana home to Fairfax, Virginia, she brings us along on her quest for vengeance. Will this be Ronnie's last day on earth or the dawn of a surprising new chapter in her life?
Legislation from the local, state and federal level is not moving the needle or should I say not taking the bullet out of the chamber to reduce gun deaths.
The people who live in the United States have more guns than the it’s own military. I’ve been in gun shops who have converted or built custom fully automatic weapons. The public has no right to own a fully automatic weapon. Why does the public have access to a long range sniper rifle, the same ones military snipers use to take out a target from a mile away?
We can thank Hollywood for glamorizing gun violence, where guns are used as product placement. Nobody is gong to give John Wick a water gun or a Nerf gun to fight off the bad guys. It’s a complete Catch-22.
Using violence never stops violence and the short film LADYBUG, said it right, JUSTICE IS A MOTHER.

The short film, IZIDOR gives viewers a glimpse into the life and psyche of an institutionalized child. The stakes are high because Izidor isn't just a fictional character, but a real boy trying to determine what it means to be human. He represents not just Romania's abandoned children, but all vulnerable children, everywhere.
The short film IZIDOR utilizes both animation and live action to give attention to the disparity between how institutionalized children experience life compared to children in families.
When Izidor spends a day with a family and experiences the love and connection they have, he discovers that belonging is what makes you feel alive. Izidor's need to belong will resonate with audiences worldwide, moving viewers to address the human rights issues still confronting orphans today.

Ladies and gentlemen, in March of 1941, at the St. James Theatre in New York, two 20th century literary giants, ground breaking author Richard Wright and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paul Green collaborate to adapt Wright’s best-selling book, Native Son, into a Broadway play. Days from opening night, they differ over a single page of the script. The difference of opinion evolves into a spirited contention over issues of race, social justice, politics, and personal & creative agency. The argument threatens to dissolve their friendship.
THE PROBLEM OF THE HERO is a period film based in the 1940s, but the issues of race and social justice in this film shows that not much as changed even in 2025. The film brings forth a very powerful message.
The tug-o-war between beliefs, assumptions, and even character as they work to convince the other who is right about how the play should end. I love films that are dialogue-driven because words matter. The setting of the theater, an enclosed space in which they argue is where the finished product will be seen by the audience. The changing of stage lights further enhances the mood and the storyline. THE PROBLEM OF THE HERO is THE must see film of the year.
Both David and J. Mardrice give Oscar performances. Their brilliant performances are captivating, authentic and you feel each one’s ideas and plight. They show us that we can agree to disagree without ending a friendship.

Music Composer Josh Cavazos is inspired by large scale ideas and global relief efforts that are most dear to him. His goal is to provide a musical outlet of peace and joy to the world around him, through custom scoring, music production, and independent compositions.
His film documentary PRAYERS FOR CASSIE is inspiring. According to the American Cancer Society, almost 1,700 people die of cancer every day.
This film shows us the battle these courageous people go through, the hidden fear, pain and putting on a mask so those around them will not feel uneasy. There are days when they are strong and there are days when they are weak.
If you have a friends or family member who has cancer, the best thing you can do for them is to be there. Even in times when you may not know what to do or say. Your presence means more to them than you’ll ever know.

Lauren Melinda’s short film BEFORE YOU, explores abortion for medical reasons, based on true events. A euphoric pregnancy takes a devastating turn when a medical prognosis forces a woman and her husband to accept the harsh necessity of a heartbreaking abortion for medical reasons - a procedure currently banned in 14 states.
BEFORE YOU is powerful, compelling, heart wrenching when the choice you are given, isn’t really a choice at all. A dream being snatched away that was supposed to be the happiest and most joyful experience a couple could share.
I’m not going get into the political ramifications of the story or the subject of abortion, but we need to allow medicine to be medicine.
Lauren Melinda’s powerful storytelling brings techniques that are creatively unique, the transitions from scene to scene can only be described as art. With the guidance of cinematographer Ludovica Isidori, BEFORE YOU captures the audience and doesn’t allow them to escape the reality of such a heartbreaking and a heart wrenching decision.
Tala Ashe’s acting is authentic and pure. One moment you feel the joy, then the sense of creation, but to have it brought into uncertainty by one reaction of a nurse. Then the finalization of the doctor’s words that no one can escape from. You feel alone with her, even in the midst of having a support system, it’s just not enough. To feel lifeless and drained.
But in the end, hope and love come into view and I will leave it there.
